This past Saturday Green Light Disc Golf held a Vibram Birdie Bash at Hyland Disc Golf Course & Brewery in Sturbridge, MA. We set up a temporary 9 – hole course spread throughout the original front 9 and played 2 loops each round. Holes ranged from 175 – 225 feet, with par being 27. There were 31 players who came out Saturday to brave the elements. With temps in the mid 30’s, 2+ feet of snow on the ground, and pouring rain throughout the day; it wasn’t an easy task, but everyone stuck in there and still had a blast. There were 3 divisions: Men’s, Women, and Junior’s. It was a tight race across the board after round 1 but we had some separation down the stretch. Andrew Streeter was down 1 point going into round 2 and put together a solid second round to secure the win in the Men’s division. He played the last 4 holes with one disc after losing the other in the snow. There were 5 women who came out to play. Alicia Turcotte was down 2 points after round 1, but took her 2nd card by 3 and pulled off the 1 point win. Samuel Streeter was the lone competitor in the Junior’s division and cruised to an easy win. Andrew, Samuel, and Alicia each have a paid entry into the Vibram Birdie Bash Championships held in Kalamazoo, Michigan the weekend of July 18th and 19th. We wish them luck if they choose to go! Each Birdie Bash tournament has an award that the TD chooses as the Spirit Award winner. Though she was sick leading up to the event, Ingrid Swenson still made it out for her 1st tournament ever, stuck in there until the end, and had a smile on her face the whole time. It was an easy decision for us. Along with the trophies, we gave away a ton of swag that Vibram hooked us up with. We had socks, hats, bottle openers, ninja star minis, water bottles, and a Vibram cooler bag. We did group CTP’s each round, a ring of fire at lunch time, as well as a big raffle at the end that all players were in on. Congrats to Mandi Porter for winning the main prize, a sweet camo Vibram cooler bag. We also managed to raise $180 for the tee box renovations taking place this year at Hyland. Thank you Vibram Disc Golf! Thank you to Don Boutin and Hyland DG for opening up the course, as well as helping set up the temp course. A huge THANK YOU goes out to all who participated this weekend. We had an awesome time, and hope you all did as well! Without you guys, this stuff is not possible!
